My Yoga Story

  • Details

Born and raised in Northern California, Jamie jumped at the opportunity to explore SoCal life as an undergrad the University of California, Irvine. She graduated in 2006 with degrees in both dance and psychology and moved to NYC with intentions to pursue a career in dance. Jamie soon came to an honest crossroads – her body could no longer take the intensity of life as a dancer. Instead, she dedicated more time to deepening her yoga practice. After her first teacher training at Pure Yoga in 2010, Jamie began teaching immediately. Seeking to further her practice and knowledge, she went on to study with Rodney and Colleen and hasn’t left their side since 2012. After 4 years as a mentor at Yoga Shanti she is now a lead faculty member in their 200 hr teacher training program. She calls Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee her “Yoga Parent” and is extremely grateful for their honest support and wisdom.

Jamie is heavily influenced by the profound teachings of Pema Chodron. The book “When Things Fall Apart” changed her life immensely when she read it in 2010 and she considers Ani Pema to be one of her greatest teachers (although they have never met).

Self-study, asana, meditation and philosophy all inform her daily practice and teaching. You can expect a mixture of these qualities in her classes as well as an inspiring playlist.

In addition to teaching private, public and corporate classes she is a guest teacher on Yoga for Bad People retreats. You can visit Jamie teaching in NYC at Yoga Shanti in Flatiron, Lucent Yoga in Brooklyn and Sky Ting Yoga in Chinatown. For a full schedule of classes go to the schedule tab.
